Correlation between cognitive tests with scales, vestibular exam and questionnaires for dizziness in the elderly

Background The vestibular system interacts with various cognitive functions, including spatial navigation processes, perception, body representation, mental images, attention, memory, risk perception and social cognition. Studies inform that impairment is an important factor for changes in motor performance balance. Method Cross-sectional, observational analytical study. sample consisted of 38 elderly people dysfunction confirmed by cervical ocular VEMP exams and/or Video Head Impulse Test (v-HIT). procedures this research were approved the Ethics Committee University under number CAAE 49714221.0.0000.5149. All participants signed Informed Consent Form (FICF). Cognitive tests applied a room patient seated. Paper pencil used all tests, scales performed same trained researcher. Analysis using SPSS program - version 22.0. distribution variables was verified Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. Correlation analysis Pearson We adopted significance level 5% (p<0.05). Result A positive correlation found between MMSE gain left semicircular canal negative asymmetry lateral canals. Frontal Assessment Battery negatively correlated VAS positively canal.
